“From the very beginning, I was you. I was always a part of you,” the monster within Hyun-su (Song Kang) eerily declares in the tension-filled trailer for Sweet Home: Season 3, leaving audiences wondering which version of Hyun-su will prevail, and to what end. 

In the third and final season of the iconic Korean monsterisation saga, humans, monsters, and neohumans prepare for the ultimate showdown. The main poster captures the clash between Hyun-su and Sang-wook (Lee Jin-uk) amid a wrecked stadium engulfed in flames. Once allies, their paths diverged in the second season and now lead to a final face-off. 

The trailer shows a glimpse of intense action between Hyun-su and Eun-hyeok (Lee Do-hyun) immediately after they are reunited. Yi-kyung (Lee Si-young) opens her eyes again after being consumed by a monster, while Eun-yu (Ko Min-si) and Chan-young (Jinyoung) desperately fight for survival. Meanwhile, Tak In-hwan (Yoo Oh-seong), Dr. Lim (Oh Jung-se), Kim Yeong-hu (Kim Moo-yeol), and Kid (Kim Sia) continue their individual journeys, each facing new battles. 

Director Lee Eung-bok says, “There is a variety of characters, so I hope viewers will root for their favorite ones as they all fight in their own ways, from the battle between Sang-wook — who has turned evil — and Hyun-su, who longs to preserve his humanity; Yi-kyung, who fights to protect Kid; and Sergeant Tak, who feels responsible for the survivors’ safety.”

The poster, featuring Hyun-su (played by the charismatic Song Kang) reaching up with his monstrous wing, sets the tone for the gripping teaser trailer. This imagery sets a foreboding tone for what lies ahead in the final battle for survival.

Opening with a call for cooperation among stadium survivors, Sang-wook (Lee Jin-uk) and his followers make a shocking announcement — survivors showing symptoms will face no restrictions and will be granted clemency. This throws the non-symptomatic survivors into chaos and confusion, as their refuge is no longer secure.

Netflix is gearing up for a monstrous summer showdown as Sweet Home returns for its third and final season on July 19, bringing the epic tale of survival and evolution to a thrilling conclusion.

Since its debut, the apocalyptic horror series has captivated audiences worldwide.  Season 1 introduced viewers to a chilling world overrun by grotesque K-creatures, marking a historic moment as the first Korean series to crack the Netflix Global Top 10 TV (Non-English) list.  Season 2 continued the journey by expanding the universe and exploring deeper themes.

In Season 3, the line between monster and human blurs with each passing moment and humanity grapples with the emergency of neo humans in a world on the brink of annihilation, marking the climax of the monsterisation saga. 3. The Monsters

Other than the very-talented actors and actresses of the series, the monsters are the next leading characters and they have a big role to play in the series as well! The movements of the ‘Lotus Root Monster’ (named after fans as the top of its head was cut off) was choreographed by Kim Seol-Jin. He is a top contemporary dancer in Korea whom the public will find familiar on 'Dancing 9'! He used animals living in nature as a reference in creating the “instinctive movement to survive” for the monsters in ​‘Sweet Home’.​ Other monsters we can look forward to include the ‘Muscle Monster’, ‘Bloodsucking Monster’ and more.

Australia’s Got Talent and ​America’s Got Talent​ contestant, Troy James, who is known as the human spider, specially flew down to Korea for the shooting of ‘Sweet Home’. He nailed the movements and personality of the 'spider monster' with his freaky twisty moves.

The visual of creatures in ​'Sweet Home​' was brought together by Legacy Effects and Spectral Motion. They are one of the best special effects and FX studios teams in Hollywood, known for their works in blockbuster films including 'Avengers' series, 'X​ -men' series, and 'Avatar'.​ Westworld, a top VFX team in the Korea, also participated in the production of ​‘Sweet Home’​. As the frontrunner in “virtual production,” a technology which allows real-time monitoring of videos made with computer graphics (CG) on the filming location, Westworld contributed to the elaborated CG and spectacular visuals significantly! This cutting-edge technology has similarly been used for the production of 'Game of Thrones' and 'Aquaman'!

5. Emotional Plot and Message of the show

Cast of Netflix's upcoming thriller series 'Sweet Home' - Song Kang, Lee Siyoung, Lee Jin-wook, Lee Dohyun, Park Kyu-young, Go Min-si, Go Yoon Jung and Kim Nam-hee attended the virtual press conference along with Director Lee Eung Bok this morning. In line with the COVID-19 guidelines,  the press conference was held virtually and the cast and director Lee joined from their remote locations and greeted the press with their warm smiles through their webcams. 

The highly-anticipated Netflix original series ‘Sweet Home’ talks about a story of a high schooler named Hyun-soo (played by Song Kang), who lives in the shabby and tattered Green Home apartment after losing his entire family in an accident. At the apartment complex, Hyun-soo experiences bizarre and shocking incidents where humans turn into monsters overnight.

Q: To Director Lee Eung Bok, which part of the webtoon spoke to you to want to make this series?

Lee Eung Bok: In every episode, all of the elements really intrigued me, I have seen other content that have monsters and creatures, but never seen any that turn into monsters that turn into monsters based on their desires. Also having a boy turn into monster who thought about wanted to take his life one day, that is the day that he finds himself having to survive and ends up saving other people and the world, so I thought the whole storyline was very intriguing when I first met Hyun-soo the character. I thought of Hyun soo as someone who had a very pure heart and also has a cold-blooded image.

When asked how the cast felt when they first read the script for ‘Sweet Home’, Song Kang, who is a huge fan of the webtoon, mentioned that he really wanted to see how the monsters came to live in the action series. “The trailer was really impressive and I can’t wait to see the whole series!” the main actor expressed.

Q: Did you train very extremely for the action scenes?

Lee Siyoung: I did weight training and martial arts training, compared to my previous works, it was still challenging physically.

Lee Siyoung plays Seo Yikyung, a character not from the original webtoon. Seo Yikyung is a former firefighter. In the series, the brave and courageous Seo Yikyung will be the one making quick and clever decisions along with her strong survival skills when Green Home is in danger.
