18,000 Fans Flock to Sunway Lagoon for Electrifying 9 Wave Music Festival on 11 Nov

The 9 Wave Music Festival, hosted at Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach on November 11th, captivated a crowd of 18,000 K-pop fans. This event, organised by Nine XTraw and co-sponsored by Skyline Entertainment, was a vibrant display of K-pop artistry, featuring performances by (G)I-DLE, Henry Lau, EXO's XIUMIN, Girls' Generation's HYOYEON, iKON's Bobby, and SHAUN.

iKON's Bobby set the stage ablaze with his electrifying rap skills. He opened with the aggressive beats of "U MAD" and "Hercules!", transitioning into the rhythmic "Holup!" and the smooth "Tendae." The mood shifted with the emotional "Firework" and "Swim," followed by the high-energy "Break It Down." He concluded his set with the intense "Heart BROKEN PlayBoy," leaving the crowd exhilarated.

SHAUN offered a mix of contemplative and energetic numbers. "Lunisolar" and "Shooting Star" set a dreamy tone, while "Answer" and "Don't Let Me Know" brought a reflective mood. "So Right" and "Closed Ending" showcased his versatility, and "Traveler" added an upbeat rhythm. The performance peaked with "Bad Habits," culminating in the crowd-favorite "Way Back Home," which united the audience in a memorable sing-along.

HYOYEON from Girls' Generation mesmerized with her signature dance moves. The set opened with the visually stunning "Picture," followed by the intense "Deep." "Second" brought a fierce energy, and "Dessert" was a crowd-pleaser with its catchy beat. She wrapped up with the vibrant "Sober," showcasing her dynamic range as a performer.

Henry Lau's set was a showcase of his musical mastery. He opened with the haunting "Trap," followed by the mellow "Summer Sky." "Believer" featured his innovative use of unconventional instruments, while "Radio" and "Monster" highlighted his vocal prowess. The soulful "It's You" led into the romantic "Moonlight," leaving the audience spellbound.

XIUMIN of EXO enchanted fans with his charismatic performance. "Brand New" was a vibrant opener, and "Serenity" showcased his soothing vocals. The heartfelt "Love Letter" was followed by the upbeat "Daisy." "Feedback" added a touch of nostalgia, and he concluded with the inspiring "Beyond," demonstrating his versatility as a solo artist.

The night concluded with a powerful performance by (G)I-DLE. The sultry "Queencard" and "Nxde" set an assertive tone, followed by the energetic "Pop/Stars." "My Bag" and "Tomboy" highlighted their unique style, and the performance concluded with the anthemic "Never Stop Me," leaving the audience on a high note.(G)I-DLE closed the show with their hit "QUEENCARD," creating an electrifying atmosphere. Their interaction with the fans, responding to the energy of the crowd, was a fitting end to the night's performances.

The 9 Wave Music Festival was a magnificent celebration of K-pop, with each artist bringing a unique flavor to the stage. The Grand Wave K-pop Music Festival finally happened last weekend with the highly anticipated line-up at Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach. The festival was celebrated and partied by the warmest welcome and support from fans for each artiste! The artiste tease Malaysian fans for the crowd understanding of Korean, checking if they are really in Malaysia and are fans attending Malaysian! (well, Korean language is like a love language to show our support)

Opening the festival was open by power vocal Park Bom of 2NE1 with 'Fire' that turn the cooling after rain weather hot! BLACKJACKs sweet treat continues with Park Bom performing her greatest hits. Park Bom sang '4:44' and 'Don't Cry' - another hit from 2NE1 that felt like a little trip down memory lane which we will always remember. Park Bom got off the stage to be closer to fans while singing 'You and I'. Park Bom was back on stage with 'Shamful' and ending with 'Do Re Mi Fa Sol'.

Next, GOT7 Youngjae appeared on stage opening with Vibin'. Malaysian Ahgase watched Youngjae as a solo artiste here for the very first time. Although it was night festival, Youngjae sure did bring sunshineine to the audience. His smile and jovial personality shone through all his stages. He performed Sugar which got our legs moving followed by Tasty which he removed his jacket! Youngjae had the sweetest smile and interaction also checking if he was really in Malaysia when fans could understand him without the translator.

Youngjae and continued his set with Focus and ending with Crema. The night sure did filled the hearts of many Ahgase with happiness.

Soon after, Pharynx (EXO's Lightstick) was lighted up filling the audience in cosmic latte colour calling for EXO CHEN! EXO-Ls scream was loud and clear. CHEN appears and serenades with 'Shall We?' and continuing with 'Beatiful Goodbye'.

CHEN mentioned Malaysian fans has gifted him with a local traditional wear.

Before the next song, CHEN said that he has 1 more song and sang his OST for It's Okay, That's Love, 'Best Luck (최고의 행운)'. Everytime when any artiste mentioned it'll be the last song the fans will be sad but lucky fans were in for a treat when the music of popular OST from Descendant of The Sun, 'Everytime' begun.

A little break we had as the next artiste band was getting ready. That's right, a band was brought here for the audience too! And it was none other than SHAUN opening with 'Traveller' followed by 'Lunisolar'.

SHAUN has picked up some Bahasa too which melted the hearts of many with his love expression. The audience was cheering on for him and requesting his next song to be 'Way Back Home' which he kept for later. He continued his set with 'Road' where audience sang along with, "Closed Ending' and 'Bad Habits' which audience knows the lyrics to too! And it's time for the crowd highly requested song 'Way Back Home' before he close his set with 'Don't Let Me Know'.

As the night continues, it was time for one of Asia most popular female DJ, DJ Soda! It was party time with DJ Soda set remixing different genre of music including Blackpink's 'Pink Venom' with her teasing a bit of dance. And sang some of her songs like 'Shooting Star' and her latest 'Alice in Wonderland'

The night of amazing line-up continues with BI starting his set with 'Waterfall' looking suave. BI set the stage hotter with 'Flame'

The multi-talented artiste performed 'Illusion' , although the weather was hot enough, the heat from BI sure got fans all frenzy and makes the audience heart goes 'BTBT'. His vocals, dance and the overall performance was just amazing!

BI learn some Bahasa and express his love with 'Saya Cinta Kamu?' and mentioned he would love to come back to Malaysia again with his upcoming tour! (We are all waiting). He continued his performance with 'Keep Me Up', 'Lover'and ending it with 'Cosmos'.

The finale and closing artiste of the night was Girls Generation Hyoyeon (DJ Hyo) that lit the audience pink and her charisma. Her set kick off with Girls Generation 'Forever 1' that got the audience wild!

Her 1 hour set was filled with nostalgic memories of songs that majority of the audience grew up listening like 'Conga' and current trending songs like 'As It Was'. As she spins and remix the songs as DJ, we got singer-dancer HYO performing 'Dessert' and 'Deep'! Hyoyeon interacted with audience in Korean, English and Mandarin! It was a cute moment when the music suddenly stopped for photo time! She requested the lights to be switch on for better photo lighting in Mandarin. Her cue for audience was 'SoShi (소시)' and Hyoyeon. Just before leaving the stage ending the night Hyoyeon thanked the fans in English and Mandarin and mentioned in Mandarin 以后见面吧，今天热死了 (yi hou jian mian ba, jin tian re si le) (Translation: See you night time, it's been a really hot day today)

The lineup has been announced! A festival not to be missed featuring Girls’ Generation Hyoyeon, 2NE1 Park Bom, EXO CHEN, GOT7 Youngjae, B.I, SHAUN and DJ Soda!

This much anticipated Grand Wave K-pop Musical Festival is set to blow the minds of Malaysian K-pop fans to witness their favourite idol performance. Each of the artiste has made incredible comebacks and releases throughout their career. What's more exciting and most of the artiste are main vocalist of their respective groups too!

1. HYO - Girls' Generation 'Dancing Queen'

Girls' Generation has recently celebrated their 15th Anniversary and made long awaited and highly anticipated full group comeback album with 'Forever 1'. Before the group's recent comeback, each member has been focused on their solo activities for the past five years. HYO first mini album, DEEP was released May this year.

2. Park Bom - 2NE1 powerful main vocalist

2NE1 was recognize for expanding girl groups musical style by not conforming to typical stereotypes of K-pop, musical experimentation, fashion, and stage presence and rose to become one of the leading figures of the Korean wave. As a solo release, Park Bom has released numerous outstanding pieces and her latest single titled "Flower" features Kim Min-seok from MeloMance.

3. Chen - 'Ballad Prince' of EXO

A fellow member of EXO who has been recognised in many occasions for their powerful vocals, jaw-dropping stage performances as well as addicting music. In less than 2 years of his debut, Chen has performed with the incredible John Legend. Chen's solo works gained recognised for his wide range and ability to sing high notes.

4. Youngjae - 'Sunshine Main Vocalist' of GOT7

A proud and part of "Seven or never,""seven or nothing," GOT7 member who forged paths and stayed true to their words with their commitment towards each other and promise to their fans by staying together through it all and conquered the world with their world-class and multifaceted talents as a team and individually. Youngjae treated fans with 'Sugar' back in June.

5. B.I - allrounder musical talent

B.I never fails to delivers exemplary works as a rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. Making his solo debut in 2021, and in less than a year he has achieved global success becoming the first K-pop and Asian act to participate in the digital performance series made by The Recording Academy to spotlight artists from around the world, called GRAMMY Global Spin.

6. SHAUN - found his way to hearts of many

The hidden card behind the famed "Way Back Home" makes waves when the song gained popularity among the Korean dance community through social media posting and fans sharing videos of Shaun's live performances at clubs and festivals. Shaun started as a keyboardist and backup singer of the indie rock band The Koxx before his solo hit song

7. DJ Soda - leading Korean female DJ

DJ Soda got her breakthrough in 2015 by touring with the Korea World DJ festival and gradually built her reputation on being a frequent headliner for several Asian music festivals. Aside her DJing, she is active on her social media and her own Youtube channel where she shares her new songs, city tours, her performance in music festivals, and many more.
