Taemin Takes Malaysia by Storm: Ephemeral Gaze Tour Delivers Unforgettable Night

Friday, September 13, 2024

Taemin, the ace maknae of SHINee and the "idol of idols," returned to Malaysia after nearly a decade for his 2024 solo world tour, Ephemeral Gaze. Held at the Malawati Indoor Stadium in Shah Alam, this long-awaited performance marked his first solo tour stop in the country since SHINee’s 2015 Formula 1 Grand Prix show.

Taemin made a dramatic entrance, stepping onto the stage wearing a black mask as the opening beats of "Deja Vu" filled the stadium. The fans, known as Taemate and Shawol, erupted in cheers when Taemin removed the mask mid-song, setting the tone for an electrifying night. The energy intensified as he launched into "Guilty," one of his latest chart-toppers, followed by the sharp and fierce "Advice."

Between songs, Taemin revealed that he had made special arrangements for both "Guilty" and "Advice," expressing how proud he was of the updated versions performed that night. He also touched on how every song had been carefully selected to represent his journey as an artist. "No matter when or through which song you came to know me," Taemin said, "the Taemin you see now is still the same Taemin."

The concert shifted to a softer tone with a series of emotional ballads, including "Goodbye," "I'm Crying," "I'm Not Over You," "Unknown Sea," and "Blue." Taemin confessed that he rarely sings ballads outside of concerts, making this a special opportunity for fans to witness his vulnerable side.

Throughout the night, Taemin’s improved English skills were on full display, earning cheers from the crowd. Known for his viral English moments on social media, he charmed fans with his playful interactions. When fans chanted “cute” at him, Taemin teased back, “Do you know my age?”—a reminder that, though 31 now, he will forever be the beloved maknae in their hearts.

The performance was a visual feast, with the lighting arrangements adding to the atmosphere. During "G.O.A.T" and "MOVE," the lighting design seamlessly integrated with Taemin’s choreography, enhancing the overall experience and making it feel like a light show as much as a concert.

For the encore, fans orchestrated a touching moment by singing "Pansy" to call Taemin back to the stage. Moved by the gesture, Taemin joined in, singing "Pansy" with his Malaysian Taemates.

In a nod to local culture, Taemin playfully acknowledged that he usually rips off his clothes during "Guilty." But with a smile, he said, “Let’s save that for another country because I respect the culture here in Malaysia.”

During the fan interaction segment, Taemin created even more memorable moments. “I say 1, 2, 3, you say SHINee!” he instructed the crowd, followed by, “I say 1, 2, 3, you say TAEMIN, I LOVE YOU!” and “I say 1, 2, 3, you say I LOVE YOU TOO!” The playful chant tugged at the hearts of fans who’ve been longing for a SHINee reunion in Malaysia.

The night ended with an emotional video tribute prepared by Malaysian fans. Taemin's reaction was priceless as he spotted a familiar face in the video and exclaimed, “I know her!” His bubbly reaction and heartfelt thanks left the audience swooning as he admitted, “I should be the one giving presents, but instead I’m the one receiving.”

As the concert came to a close and rain began to fall outside, Taemin once again showed his deep care for his fans by posting a thoughtful message on social media, urging everyone to get home safely. It was a gesture that left his fans even more in love with the idol.

Taemin's Ephemeral Gaze World Tour in Kuala Lumpur was organized by MASA ENTERTAINMENT and proved to be a night that Taemates and Shawols will remember for years to come.
